I met Daddy Tim at approximately 5:30am while a mutual friend and I were getting ready to exercise (yes, we rock out a 5:45am class religiously 2x/week). He was all sweaty from his own workout and proceeded to shake my hand anyways which makes it sound gross, but it was actually quite endearing! Daddy Tim and Mama Hadley are the kind of people who are so down-to-earth, you feel like part of the family the moment you meet them. They are kind, sweet, open people who know how to laugh at life...I knew we'd get along great! When their family of three became a family of four by adding Gus, I was elated to capture them at home with their new addition. Big Sister Lucy was proud and sweet, even allowing us to capture several shots of her and Gus together - truly a GIFT if you've ever worked with toddlers!
Here are some of my favorites from our lifestyle newborn session in their home, starting with my FAVORITE family photo of them - it's so them!.
You may recall Russell's parents from their maternity session. They brought an adorable jersey with them to that session and this time they had a super cute onesie that said, "Birth: Nailed It" (get it?? last name is Nail?? ha!) He wasn't exactly thrilled about it when we were shooting that portion, but the concept is adorable nonetheless so I am sharing! My favorite shot from the newborn session is mama with her eyes closed smiling...or rather laughing...just such a precious time for them!
Welcome, Ronan!!! He was a dream to meet and I adored his sweet parents (and grandfather visiting from SWEDEN). We captured not one but TWO smiles during our time together - so special! And I was a little obsessed with his tiny fingers - ha ha!
Photographing a growing family is not only a pleasure, but an honor. It means they chose me not once, but twice (or more!) to document the debut of their newborn into this world. I have photographed the Wilson Family since big brother Ben was about a week or so old. He now has a new brother named Nolan that looks just like him!! Ben has captured my heart over the years and this session was no different. Though our focus was on Nolan, I couldn't help but capture Ben in all his toddler-dom.
Ava's parents are smitten! They both adore sweet Ava so much that it is contagious!! I had the opportunity to photograph Ava's newborn session just last week and am thrilled to share a few favorites from our San Francisco session.
When I spoke with Mama Christine on the phone prior to Priya's arrival, I knew she was super-sweet and easy to get along with. What I didn't know is that you combine her with Hubby Kevin and unbelievably easy Priya (and of course Great-Grandma Betty!), and you get the ultimate awesome client experience (from my end!)! Their home was stylish and personal...with every nook teaching me something new about them (from Kevin's love of bacon to Christine's love of bows). Kevin and I even snuck in a bonus shot of "Super Priya" at the very end to surprise Christine.
Thank you, Christine and Kevin, for sharing your precious newborn with me!
Emmyyyyyyy. Just saying her name makes you smile! Her parents are a delight through and through. They are so laid back yes, even as first-time parents!! that it makes my job all the better. Her newborn photographs speak for themselves (or rather for her) - welcome to the world, Emmy!
Yesssss - Avery is here! After our super-fun maternity shoot at Land's End, I was super-excited to meet the newest addition to the Lewis family...Avery! She is adorable, sweet, squishy and perfect. Big brother Cooper was sweet-as-pie to Avery, as was evidence in the pictures! This first photo is one of my favorite newborn photos I've ever taken...ever! I just love the simplicity and colors that really let Avery shine...
I had the pleasure of doing a 1:1 Mentoring Session with Aliki Joannides from Alaska yesterday!! She wanted to work on some newborn techniques together, and we were fortunate to have Daniel + Sarah come up from San Jose with their adorable 8-day-old, Charlotte! Charlotte is beautiful. Sweet, adorable, itty-bitty...perfect. Aliki and I went through various poses, talked about soothing a baby, discussed newborn posing safety and so much more.
Thank you, Daniel + Sarah, for sharing her with us!
I first met Kim + Alex when I shot their maternity photos before their son Aidan was born 2+ years ago. They had just moved from San Francisco to the East Bay and welcomed a brand new adorable baby boy to help them get settled. Fast forward and they now have a sweet, precious baby girl named Sophie and Alex has also gotten the entrepreneurial bug and has started his own venture called Smallnest, which is a clever app that helps parents track their baby's eating, sleeping and diaper schedules.
This is my second time photographing this model-looking family and WOW they did not disappoint. I was in awe of mommy Lisa after meeting her when her now 2-yr-old Hannah was born and my admiration was not lessened this time with the birth of Hunter! Seriously...Lisa looks like a supermodel...yet acts like a supermommy...the total package! Enjoy a few of my favorites from our newborn session in their San Francisco home.

I met Piera's parents, Erol & Mackenzie, about five years ago through a dear mutual friend. Little did we know that five years later, my husband would go on monthly "man-dates" with Erol and the four of us would love going to dinner and spending time together! And now, these amazing people are PARENTS! Piera was 8 days new when we did her newborn shoot and WOW - this girl can sleep! She was a total champ for the entire shoot and my cheeks hurt from smiling for so long!! The family shots and mommy/daddy shots are some of my favorite to date...I am in love with the way Erol looks at Mackenzie and the way they both look at Piera! Without further ado, meet Piera:
Ahhh, Sarah and David. They are yin and yang...hot and cold...ummm, I'm blanking on metaphors but you get it! Sarah is even-tempered and sweet while David can't keep a straight face and his favorite thing is to photo-bomb...his own photo. HA HA! I have been taking their family photos since Mark was 6 months (he is now 2 years!) and am THRILLED that I get to document Baby Isabelle's entire first year! We did Isabelle's newborn session about a week after she was born and we had a great time! I love photographing families over and over because, as we get to know each other, the photos become more and more personal...to both of us.
Here are some of my favorites:
Jackson is now closer to 3.5 months (!!) and I will see him soon for his 6-month shoot, but I wanted to also share some photos from his super-sweet newborn session! Congratulations, Gina & James!
One thing I love about the Bay Area is you can experience the temperature change by 20 degrees within an hour of driving. San Francisco is notoriously...well...cold. Here it is July 7th and we wore 3 layers to the park this afternoon! On the contrary, I drive down to San Jose for shoots and it's real-deal-heat-infused summer! Baby Maya's San Jose newborn shoot was no exception. For San Francisco clients, I have to ask they crank their heat up to absurd temperatures AND I add in my space heater. For Maya's shoot in San Jose, we got to have the doors open and even got to shoot outside a bit! As you can see, Maya's parents adore her. They light up with her in the room and are completely smitten by her every wrinkle, cry and itty-bitty toe. Congratulations, Adam + Robyn...I can't wait to capture Maya's first year!
I looooove it when I get to photograph the "next generation" (i.e. 2nd/3rd kiddos) as they enter a family! You may recall Baby Mason from November 2010 (!). He is "all grown up" now (though sadly feeling way under-the-weather for Baby Sister Stella's shoot) and is a Big Brother! I ran into Mama Heidi at Tot Gym (my go-to-activity for Friday mornings with my own little guy, Cal) a few months ago when Stella was still in her tummy and was so happy to be able to see her pregnant before Stella's arrival. They wanted to time Stella's photos around the same timeframe that we did for Mason (about 1 month old) and it was such a treat to be able to recreate a scenario for their new addition. Here are some of my favorites:
Baby Ava is already a few months old now, but I am finally catching up on the blog and couldn't resist posting a few of this dreamy little girl. And when I say "dreamy", not only is she crazy-beautiful, but she slept for our session. Like, the entire session. Did I mention dreamy? Yes. Perfect. Mama Linda is one of those people that you can't help but watch when she walks in a room because she's drop-dead-gorgeous. Then, she opens her mouth and this lovely British accent pours out - and it turns out she is thoughtful, brilliant and hilarious...all in one package. I met Linda just over 5 years ago and am so honored to document Baby Ava's first year for her and hubby AJ!
And now...sit back and just enjoy their cute-ness.
