Minted contacted me a couple months ago asking if I could provide some images for their 2013 Holiday Card Collection. I was (and am) beyond flattered and honored! They launched the new card collection today and I pulled a few of the samples to share!
I can't believe Gia has turned ONE! It seems like yesterday that I met Pam + Darron for Gia's newborn shoot. Now she is an adorable one-year-old that is full of energy and cheeks! Can we talk about her cheeks?? I just want to eat them up! We ventured to the Palace of Fine Arts to celebrate Gia turning one and also to document Pamela while she is pregnant with Baby #2 that will arrive this June.
Enjoy the chubby cheeks!
Lauren's parents honored me by allowing me to document their 2nd child's entire first year...from maternity to newborn to 6-months and finally - 1 year! We capped off the celebration with a separate "cake smash session" just for Lauren and she rocked it! At first, she was a bit apprehensive...mostly looking at her mom as if to say, "Are you sure this is all for me??" She then discovered she could use the "1" candle as a spoon (at the end of the day, she is still a lady and did not want to dirty her adorable little fingers with icing!), though her feet were not as lucky! Some favorites from our celebration:
I met Carolyn five years ago when I was loving my marketing job at Symantec. I was shooting on the weekends in my spare time and enjoying my dual-life (note: this was pre-kids...there is no such thing as "free time" with kids!). Carolyn and her fabulously adorable hubby Todd are doing a First Year Package with me. As you know, I love the First Year Package because I really, really get to know a couple. It's even more special when we get to start with the maternity session (when their lives are about to change in ways they never thought possible...and nobody can prepare them for...no matter how much wonderful advice everyone likes to dish out). I have so many images I want to share, I'm just going to dive in. We started at Buena Vista Park for their maternity session. They are San Francisco Giants fans, so we integrated a few pieces into their shoot as well as a whale theme they have going for Baby Tyler's room. I wish you could see the full mural they have on his nursery room wall - incredible!!!
Enjoy...and welcome to parenthood!
Meet Gia. Sweet, sweet Gia! Her mom and dad could not be more in love with her - it is so sweet! I had as much fun getting to know Mama Pamela as I did photographing her sweet baby girl. Now...enjoy some highlights (and try not to drool at how photogenic Pam is just a week post-partum...it ain't fair!).
How cute are these two??? They are now parents, but I had the opportunity to capture their last few "official" (i.e. paparazzi-infused) moments as a couple...just them. Those last few weeks before a first baby is born are absolutely precious. It's that time when you are balancing the (somewhat annoying, but coming from a very good place) bombardment of suggestions, suggestions, suggestions...while also trying to remain as comfortable as possible...while also (if you're me) wondering what in the world you're about to get into...and while also trying to cherish your wonderful partner in these last moments of being just the two of you. And this is why I love maternity sessions and why I think they are important for my clients. Erica + Seth recently moved to San Francisco and specifically had Baker Beach in mind for our shoot. Keep in mind that when I do family shoots there, we start at sunrise (currently around 8:00am). When you're a parent of a little one, that is already two hours into your "work day"...when you're expecting your first child, that is just crazy-talk on a weekend morning. Nonetheless, Erica + Seth were game for our early-morning start and ROCKED our maternity shoot!
Congratulations on your new addition, Erica + Seth. Ben is one lucky baby!
I met another Brooke! I mean, I have probably met two dozen "Brooke's" in my entire life, so my ears always perk up when I meet one. We are a rarity (which I secretly love) and I was excited to meet this Brooke and her newly expanded family! We started at their house, where I met their eldest son, Fletcher, and their new addition, "Monte" for short. It was the holidays and everything was warm and cozy inside. Fletcher showed me all of his cool trains and animals while Monte did his job of being an adorable 6-week-old. After the house, we headed to the Presidio to get some fun outdoor shots of the entire family. Enjoy!
I am so excited that I get to follow and get to know Phoebe + Sean over the next year of their little one's life! The due date will be here before we know it (just after Valentine's Day!) and I can't wait to photograph their new son. For maternity photos, we wanted to capture something "San Francisco" with a beach and also something that was more private. We headed over to the Golden Gate Bridge on the Marina Green/Crissy Field area to get some beach shots, then went to my fave (Lover's Lane) for our more private/let loose photos!
Sean was a natural in front of the camera, but let's be honest - it's the WOMAN who has the pressure to shine-shine-shine! Phoebe rocked it and you'd think she had paparazzi around all the time. Sean did a great job of making her laugh so we could get her natural, beautiful smile. This baby boy is going to be very lucky to have two incredible parents awaiting him!!
Ahhh, growing families. It is truly such an honor to be a part of it. I met Deirdre when she took one of my "Photography 101 Workshops" a couple years ago. Her second son was born in December 2010 (remember sweet James here?) and then we got together for a family session in the Presidio to capture the little guys once again. I told Deirdre during the session, but I'll say it again to y'all. Mamas, we do a pretty darn fantastic job of juggling 10,000 things in our head, but making it seem like we're laser-focused on the task at hand. And I'm no psychologist/therapist/whatever, but I'll say that sometimes I see Daddies that have a harder time of compartmentalizing...especially when we shoot on a weekday and their head is already at the office. This isn't a dig on Daddies - believe me, I have more gratitude than I can possibly count for the Daddies in this world - just a statement of something I see in my line of work. All that rumble to say a heartfelt thanks and kudos to Daddy Andy for being nothing short of awesome during our session!!! It was a weekday...it was holiday time...and he rocked it. He kept the boys entertained and giggling, giggling, giggling throughout our session. Andy, if that whole "real work" thing doesn't pan out, you can be my assistant any day (ha ha).
So - onto the adorable kiddos?? Ummm, yes please! I'm starting with one that I would call "Little Ducklings" if I actually titled my images. I just love it.
Y'all know I love me some Lover's Lane in the Presidio. It's quiet, it's deserted, the lighting is romantic...and then you add Jaime + Jess and the scene becomes drop-dead-gorgeous. Jaime was 37 weeks pregnant when we did this shoot. Yes, thirty-seven. She shouldn't be allowed to look this good, but that's Jaime! Jaime was our neighbor when we lived in San Diego back-in-the-day, and we followed her up to San Francisco (okay, she and my hubby both desperately wanted to move here and I was the big hold-out...shame on me as we've never looked back!). She met Jess a few years ago here in SF and to say they are the perfect match would be a complete understatement. She is the yin to his yang, as they say. Aside from being a gorgeous couple (what is it with the people I shoot - they are all straight out of magazine ads!), they are some of the sweetest, most thoughtful people you will ever meet. They are the kind of people that, if we ever got in a bind, we would call them and they'd already be at our side to help before we hang up the phone.
They welcomed Baby Anna into the world last week and we couldn't be happier to welcome them into our world of parenthood. We love you, Jaime + Jess!
You know those families where you just smile in their presence? That is what Kim, Marty and little Hugo are for me. Any of the three of them independently enter a room (or rather playground) and you just feel lighter with them around. So when you group all three of them together?? It's seriously bliss...I adore this family. Marty went to Boston College with Dave & me, then we reconnected about two years ago at CPMC doing the hospital tour when Kim and I were both pregnant. I am so grateful to have them in our lives...for their light, for their humor and for their overall friendship. Oh...and Hugo? I wasn't kidding when I said on Facebook he may need to be checked for Botox. The kid is always smiling. Y'all, he's two. Two-year-olds are crazy ups-and-downs-and-all-arounds...except Hugo, who is just delighted with life...we can all learn from him!
Three boys! Three....boys. And mom is a runner...And dad is a triathlete. Are you exhausted yet??? And the kicker? They make it look easy!!! I left this shoot remembering how easy I have it with just 1 kiddo...WOW! These boys are - not surprisingly - full of amazing energy that goes and goes. They are boys through-and-through, showing me my first banana slug (who knew?), picking out the best tree limbs and exploring the great wide open of Land's End. Thank you, boys, for reminding me to slow down and smell the - er - banana slugs.
Twins, twins, twins!!! Being a photographer who has the pleasure of taking photos of twins is awesome!!! This is my second time photographing the Wolff twins and we headed to the Presidio for this shoot. It was during beloved "Fleet Week" but that didn't affect our plans and the kids were awesome!! Here are a few of my favorites. Can we talk about the ones of them hugging each other??? Seriously??? I expect brothers and sisters of their age to be hitting'n'hating. Not these guys...they are love, love, love...they play together, chase each other and love on mommy and daddy just as much as each other. Have I painted a fairytale yet?? They are!!!
This post is a long time coming! We ended up doing this shoot in two parts...one for Baby Ava when she was just a couple months old, then one for the entire family a few months later at the Palace of Fine Arts. Mama Sarah started as a client and became a friend of mine - love it when that happens! Her son, Ari, is the same age as my son, Cal. It's amazing how small San Francisco can be - we get to run into each other all the time at mom's groups or the playground or just walking around the Marina. Sarah and Larry are so engaged with their kids...it was a joy to capture this for them. If you see Sarah on the streets, ask her to sing - she sang lullabies to Ari and Ava that melted my heart....
Meet Megan. Sweet, adorable, smart, talented sister of Erin Brennan of Brennan Brand (remember her ridiculously fun model/actress headshots?). Megan is a crazy-talented composer (check her out here: http://www.meganbrennan.net) and I was thrilled to take new headshots for her! We headed to Lafayette Park in Pacific Heights. Megan swears she is uncomfortable in front of the camera but she certainly fooled me! With Erin shouting ridiculous things toward her that only sisters can shout, we clicked away and here are a few of my favorites!
Yes, the James family is back! After helping me with my video, we had a full shoot for 6-month-old Abigail just a couple weeks later. It is truly so amazing to see families grow before my eyes...from their maternity shoot to their newborn shoot and now their 6-month-shoot! We headed to Baker Beach on the north side of San Francisco to let Abigail do what 6-month-olds do...smile, gurgle and try to eat every inch of sand in front of them!
Yep, I'm in love. And it's not just Dave or Cal this time. I met Matt & Eugene from Marmalade Sky Films a few months ago...I found them on Facebook (a fellow photog posted a wedding that Marmalade created and it was love at first sight). I reached out to Matt & Eugene to see if they would consider using their incredible storytelling skills to create a video for Brooke Bryand Photography. I wanted to create something that would show new clients a little bit more about who I am as a person...what a session is like...and make the entire experience a little less intimidating and FUN! The video isn't quite ready yet (believe me, I hit "refresh" about 2,000 times a day!), but I will share as soon as it is! In the meantime, I want to thank my awesome, awesome clients for saying YES to letting two fabulous guys follow us around for the morning. If you don't know them yet, check 'em out!
And also a huge thanks to my "talent team" (i.e. the lovely ladies who make sure I don't look like I'm coming from the gym and help me not sound like an idiot on camera): -- Erin Brennan of Brennan Brand Strategy -- Loryn Barbeau, a holistic performance coach and all-around amazing person
What went into creating my video: We first shot Andrea's family (7 of them!) and then met Ali and Travis at Lover's Lane (you know I love that location!) to snap a few photos of sweet Abigail. Finally, we headed back to my apartment where we did an interview with me...which...it turns out...is terrifying! I've done public speaking...I've been interviewed on TV...I didn't think it was my first rodeo until I realized it was! Speaking to an audience about a concrete subject is one thing...speaking about myself, it turns out, is a whole different ball-o-wax. So I got gussied up and had my hair done at dry bar (if you haven't been there - GO! It's awesome)...then my make-up done at Benefit (also fabulous)...and off we went. Here are a few shots from "behind the scenes" - I can't wait to share the entire video with you!
Got kids? Sometimes wonder if you're doing it "right" or why Little Johnny became possessed by the devil when he turned 2 1/2? Meet George Kolcun, MFT...aka kid guru. Okay, so that is not his official title but it seems that it would suffice! George has a great practice geared toward families struggling with a wide variety of challenges...depression, ADHD, divorce, discipline...the list goes on and on. He often posts (free!) informative articles on his blog, so be sure to "like" him on Facebook so you can stay in the know! We met for some new headshots about a month ago. We used the Palace of Fine Arts as our backdrop and George did a great job of relaxing and being himself in front of the camera. Here are some of my faves!
WOO!! These people know how to have a good time!!!! Imagine 100 women (moms, specifically) flying in from around the country to learn, grow and celebrate their success together. Kiddos were left behind while these moms had a few days of freedom at the W Hotel in San Francisco. It was hard to pick "highlight photos" from this conference because I was moved by so many aspects. I was hanging out in the back of the room most of the time, but I had the opportunity to hear the stories that these women brought with them...the excitement, the revitalization, the appreciation they have for their jobs at Plum District! Tears were shed (yes...me too...I totally had to excuse myself after one mom described how her life has changed since having this job) and LOTS of smiles all around. Enjoy! The Welcome Reception....
